Do we really believe this guy?

You may have seen this video before. It's been on MTV for awhile and I noticed a lot of people are talking about it on the net. But I can't help it. I must know what you think.

If you haven't seen this, the video is of a man who claims to be straight, but does gay porn for a living. Don't worry, this video isn't graphic. It's from the MTV show "True Life."

I gotta say, I don't believe this guy can be straight. I don't care how much money he makes. There's no way a guy can have gay sex and not be attracted to men. Is there?

This guy (I think his name is Aaron) says he makes $5000 a shoot and does about 8 a month. That is a whole lot of money. But still... I wouldn't do it.

But is it a gay thing or is it a moral issue? I don't have anything against gay people-- that's not what I mean by moral issue. For me, having video of myself out there having sex would be the main problem-- I really don't need my kids ever seeing anything like that. But there is less of a stigma for women having gay sex isn't there? For the record, I have never been one to "experiment." I don't know when girl on girl action came into vogue, but I certainly never felt any desire to make out with a girl. I guess that's why I have a hard time believing this guy is straight.

I'm not attracted to women and frankly, no amount of money is going to change that. I'm not coming at it from a moral angle. Really it's just a matter of desire. I don't want to grope another woman and I don't want to be groped. No offense. But I prefer men.

So I'm baffled by a guy who claims to like women but will have sex with men for money. Isn't that a bit drastic? I know he wants to have a nice lifestyle and all, but my goodness. That's like selling your soul to the devil isn't it? Especially if he's being honest and he really truly isn't attracted to men. Suppose for a second that he is telling the truth. How does he turn off his normal instincts to complete the act? Drugs? Alcohol? Denial?

I really don't get it.

I guess it's no more of a compromise than doing any other sort of porn, or prostitution. And I have heard that the 'gay for pay' guys use straight porn mags for the money shot.

Ewwww.

I don't know why that makes me shudder, it just does.

I guess on some level I'm still a prude. I can't imagine shutting off my normal urges for money. I bet most of these guys use a lot of drugs.

I guess it's all about the upstairs wiring; compartmentalizing is something some people excel at.

I tagged you for a meme. It's the "Six Unremarkable Things About Me" one that seems to be making the rounds.

Hmmm...I dunno. I consider myself totally straight, but have had sex with women...and enjoyed it. Could it be the same for guys?

Maybe he just likes sex.

Or maybe I just revealed too much.

Hmmm.

Franki.. lol

I don't know. Angelina Jolie has been real open about relationships she's had with women and said she just feels that you love who you love-- without necessarily labeling it.

Obviously there's no clear answer.

Part of my thought process comes from my husband who shudders at the idea of touching another man. He doesn't care if someone is gay, we've had gay friends, but he can't stomach the idea himself. So I just wonder if a guy labels himself straight, can he really have sex with another guy if he isn't at least a little attracted to other guys?

I think it may just be our puritanical origins frankly. Back in the Roman days, I think it was commonplace for men to have lovers of both sexes. There was no stigma. But here in America, where the Puritans fled to, because England just wasn't strict enough, homosexuals have been condemned to hell since the beginning. We've been raised that homosexuality, and especially, sodomy, is wrong, wrong, wrong. No matter what our creed, this teaching pervades and persists.

Hell if I know. I'm going to hell for lots of other reasons.

I've always heard the rule of thumb that 1 in 10 are flat-out straight, 1 in 10 flat-out gay, and for the other 8 it's mostly a question of social mores, expectations and situation.

There are a good few examples from around the world and throughout history to support the idea, places and times where some very 'different' sex-stuff was just normal.

Of course, back in college, that speech and a couple of pitchers of margaritas used to get got my girl and her best friend feeling a bit... experimental!

On a more serious note, I've heard the suicide rate's pretty high on the gay-for-pay guys. Not as bad as cops or dentists, but still pretty up there!

Dentists have a high suicide rate?

I think Franki may be on to something. If we raised with the whole idea that being gay was "bad" or "evil" this debate might not even take place. If I had no preconceived notions about sexuality it might be much easier to accept that people can be sexually attracted to whomever.

If anything, I think this shows how little porn has to do with real sex or attraction. It's about going through some motions for money, not about anything truly internal for the people involved.

SQT, dentists top the list!

Personally, I think it's knowing that no one wants to see them. That, and the drills...

As usual you nailed it in one. Obviously this isn't about anything natural. It's all about the money. Sad.

Steve

I had no idea. I suddenly feel lots of empathy for my dentist.
